Colin Frederick Haynes - born in Gorleston, Norfolk, England on June 5, 1937. Educated at King Edward VII Grammar School in Norfolk, England. Joined the Royal Navy at the age of 17, serving on the destroyer HMS Diamond as a specialist in ciphers and educational services. Completed a four-year apprenticeship with the East Midland Allied Press in Britain in 1958 to qualify as a journalist.
Travelled throughout Europe as a freelancer, reporting on agricultural, business and economic developments in the early formative period of the European Economic Community. Extensive travel in Africa and Europe as a specialist in African affairs, gaining radio and television experience with the Rhodesian Broadcasting Corporation, the BBC World Service in London, Agence France-Presse in Paris, and as a freelance contributor to radio and television stations in many countries. He was also a stringer for Newsweek. Award-winning author of computer and business books, a journalist and broadcaster, and a corporate communications consultant professional with extensive international experience in Europe, Africa and the USA.
Colin had a life-long fascination with transport - both his father and paternal grandfather were bus company executives and his maternal grandfather a shipbuilder. Married to Christine Ann Pike and they had five children - Rebecca, Robert, James, Emma and Thomas. Second marriage to Kate Drew-Wilkinson in Oregon and third marriage to Lilian Medlen in South Africa. Colin and Lilian retired to Ireland in 2005, where they founded a company to promote the use of technology to enhance the quality of life of the elderly and disabled.
